Most of us received our first lessons about sex sometime around middle school. The information was often awkward, overly simplified, and built around assumptions that didn’t reflect the realities many adults eventually experience.

For people practicing polyamory, those early lessons are especially incomplete.

At Polyamory Talks™ on April 19, Madeline Brown, Regional Field Organizer with Planned Parenthood, will present a conversation titled “Not Your Middle School Sex Ed: Safer Sex for Poly People.”

This discussion takes a modern and practical look at sexual health outside the familiar scripts of heterosexual, cisgender, monogamous relationships. Rather than focusing on rules or assumptions, Madeline will explore how partners can co-create safety, communicate openly about risk, and develop agreements that support the health and trust of everyone involved.

The goal isn’t simply education—it’s empowerment. When people have accurate information and the language to discuss it, relationships become safer, stronger, and more intentional.

Madeline brings extensive experience from her work with Planned Parenthood, where she helps communities access reliable sexual health information and develop tools for informed decision-making. Her presentation promises to be candid, inclusive, and refreshingly relevant to the realities of adult relationships.

This talk will be part of an engaging afternoon at Polyamory Talks™, which also includes a practical presentation on estate planning for poly families from attorney Jenny Ling, along with a brief Polyamory Artist Panel featuring artists participating in the upcoming Seattle Erotic Art Festival.

If you appreciate conversations that approach relationships with honesty, intelligence, and a touch of courage, we hope you’ll join us on April 19.

Tickets are available now. We look forward to seeing you there.
